Colombia is experiencing a growth in tourism and business like no other countries in South America. Ask any old hostel owner in La Candelaria in Bogota and they would tell you that 30 new hostels have opened there in the last 2/3 years.

The same applies to mid range and luxury hotels with chain hotels making Colombia on top of their development list. Sofitel, Marriott and local actors like Estelar or Dann are building new hotels in Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena.

Despite this, some cities are still off the radar of the tourism and business trail and have a very limited offer. Barranquilla, Cali or Neiva for example have only a handful of hotels to offer leading to a lodging nightmare if you want to stay there during famous events like the Carnival of Barranquilla, the Feria de Cali or the Fiestas de San Juan y San Pedro... Any large events in Colombia, book ahead and double check your reservation.

If you plan to stay for a bit longer, you should consider renting a house or an appartment especially if you're heading to Bogota or Medellin where there's a small but growing offer of apartments available. Outside of these 2 destinations and to a certain degree Cartagena, the offer is scarce or nonexistent.
