Barranquilla Getting There

BY PLANE

The airport is 10kms away from the city centre and it will cost you 20,000 pesos to get there. You can fly to and from Bogotá and most of the main Colombian cities.

BY LAND

With its location between Cartagena and Santa Marta, you’re likely to take the bus to get to Barranquilla. If you take a smaller bus, ask the driver the best stop according to your hotel or final destination.

The Bus terminal is located Calle Murillo and is relatively central. There are buses leaving every hour for Cartagena or Santa Marta, and some even leave from Taganga making the journey less painful.

Barranquilla's name comes from the canyons that existed in the sector adjacent to the Magdalena. During the Spanish colonization, the name "barranca" was common in coastal communities (Barranca Nueva, Barranca Vieja etc).
