Chapinero Neighborhood in Bogotá

Chapinero might not be the first place on every traveller’s itinerary when coming to Bogotá since it’s flanked by dangerous streets, full of tall, unattractive buildings and in the middle of far more popular areas such as La Candelaria and Zona Rosa. Sunset from Chapinero AltoWhat Chapinero might lack in aesthetic beauty, however, it makes up for emphatically in sheer liveliness, coolness, size (it’s the biggest barrio in the city) and, compared with its northerly neighbor Zona Rosa, affordability.

Packed with some of Bogotá’s best bars and clubs, Chapinero is where you’ll find the Colombian version of Shoreditch or Brooklyn kids which, whatever your take on these guys, makes it a pretty cool place to be right now.

New bars and clubs are opening up all the time around the area and it’s hard to keep a track on which is the best place to be at any one time, however you can rest assured that Invitro will be lively on a Tuesday, while the weekend sees places such as Sonora, Natural Flow, La Tora Cuatro Brazos (which has a Street Fighter arcade game), and Disco Jaguar fill up with the crowds.

=> Take care wandering the streets if you head on to Caracas (Kr. 15) and stay alert at all times, but with the amount of locals around you should be safe in Chapinero.

Chapinero is a good destination if you are looking for hotel or a hostel. It offers good value and is very central as located in between the touristic La Candelaria and the more classy and good for party Zona Rossa.

=> You can try these hostels: For backpackers, Chapinero VIP or for a bit more comfort: Hotel Lourdes Plaza, a great place for couples.
