I am always on the search for a good live venue, and the idea of going to a bar opened by the legendary Carlos Vives and his brother (a great musician as well) was an exciting prospect indeed... I wasn't sure what to expect, but one thing happened to be true: The music was good!

The Gaira Café is a very popular place and it can sometimes take several weeks to be able to book a table (that is if you want to eat of course). I was there on a Saturday and the place was ridiculously packed despite its 2 floors, I would recommend to get there during the week if you are not into sweaty dancy patches on your shirt...

The music is traditional but interpreted in a modern way (same concept than what Carlos does on his most recent albums). Expect Vallenato & Cumbia Pop (whatever that is...). It seems that Carlos Vives himself often comes to the club to jam with his bro.

=> I only saw the house band when I was there but that was definitely top notch musos and you will need to get there at least once, I understand why it is such an institution.
