Caño Cristales, the seven colour river, is a biological wonder. During the wet season, the corals and aquatic plants turn the river into a living rainbow with red and yellow pools where you can refresh yourself in.

Caño Cristales is probably the most beautiful river in the world and definitely a highlight of any travel to Colombia. It’s not that easy or cheap to get to but as one of the natural wonders of this world, any traveler or nature lover does not want to miss it.

Caño Cristales is a bit of a symbol of Colombia. A beautiful and magical place plagued by violence and guerilla activity. But as of the rest of Colombia, violence is receding and it is now COMPLETELY SAFE to travel to Caño Cristales.

Located in the Sierra de la Macarena in the department of Meta, his remote location contributed to make it one of the most violent place in Colombia near the end of the 20th century.  Until recent years, it was not safe to travel making it still a bit of an off the beaten track destination. Tourism has been exploding in the last 2, 3 years and once the world knows about it, no doubt that it will become a recognized natural wonder of our planet and a sought after destination.
