Not really part of your ordinary visit of Cartagena, these spots are a bit more adventurous or difficult to reach but all the much rewarding.
To catch the essence of Cartagena, go the popular and colourful market of Mercado Bazurto or the Manga cemetery, which dates back from the 18th century and has some interesting pieces of architecture.
If you can't offer a 5 star hotel and want to enjoy a nice swim with a view, go to the Charleston hotel and spend the day on their rooftop.
While in Cartagena, it is worth checking if the Gloria Sailing Ship is at quay, it is one of the world's biggest tall ships still in use today and it can be visited for free.
For the more adventurous, go a canoe trip in the nearby mangrove.
For a challenge, go to Plaza Bolivar and play chess with the locals at Liga de Ajedrez.
