Introduction to the East of Colombia Region - Los Llanos
The East of Colombia is the biggest region of the country but also one of the least populated.
Also called Los Llanos, the region covers 250 000 square kms (the size of the UK) and includes departments such as Meta, Guainia, Vichada, Casanare and Arauca.
The main cities are Villavicencio,Arauca,Puerto Lopez, Puerto Gaitan, Puerto Inirida and Puerto Puerto Carreño.

On the far East of Colombia deep into the forrest lies some of the less visited places in Colombia, the departments of Guainía and Vichada, a land of adventure with an incrediblly rich flora and fauna in between savannah and jungle forests similar to the Amazon basin. Head to Los Cerros de Mavecure and the Raudal de Maipures to see nature at its wildest.
The rest of the region is defined by huge plains and rivers running from the Andes up to Venezuela providing a perfect playground for a terrific eco-system and amazing wildlife including endemic species such as the Orinoco crocodile, the Orinoco turtle, the giant otter, and lots of birds including the black-and-chestnut eagle...

Land of the Colombian Vaceros (cow-boys), Los Llanos will not only allow you to witness one of the best sunset on the planet, it is also a captivating culture with its own music (musica llanera is a sort of bluegrass-like folk music including a harp), the jorop dance, giant barbecues, and people that will make you feel at home the first minute you meet them.
