Diving the 3rd biggest reef in the world! The history of the islands is filled with tales of pirate conquests, slavery and disputed claims between Colombia and Nicaragua over land rights.  The result today is a group of islands inhabited by a mixture of both Spanish speaking Colombians as well as the Creole speaking native descendants from Jamaica.

The islands attract a large number of tourists from the Colombian mainland and with the palm trees, clear blue seas and sunny climate contributing to the tropical paradise feel it´s not hard to see why.

Lizard attack!Tourism in San Andres in particular has really boomed, and the beaches are lined with large hotels offering package holiday getaways and restaurants. Providencia has managed to remained less affected by tourism and is the perfect location for spending a few days (or weeks!) getting away from it all.
