Guane

Guane like Barichara is the perfect colonial Colombian city like we would picture it in our dreams. If there was an historic movie about Colombia to be made, it would be there. Guane is particularly typical with no more than 100 inhabitants and a very unique pace of life.

Little Church of GuaneGuane is a pretty small village and don't suffer from much tourism yet (unlike her big sister Barrichara some might say). All houses are white, all roads are paved and you can see kids running along chickens in the streets. There are many photos to be made there.

Streets of GuaneThere is not much to do in Guane appart from hanging around and checking its beautiful building and colourful characters. You should be able to visit Guane & Barrichara in the same day (we strongly recommend the 2 hours walk between the 2!)

Attractions in & around Guane:

..........................................................................................................................................

1. Visit the Santa Lucia church
2. Do the walk from Barichara to Guane (doing it on the other direction might be a little tiring as it would go up!)
3. Visit the archeological museum (about $1000 COP)
4. Try the local drink : La Chicha (fermented corn and Panela)

How to get there:

..........................................................................................................................................

- Guane is 1 hour from San Gil
- Get a bus from San Gil, cost about $10.000 COP
- Info about how to get there from Bogota

=> Be careful there won't be many buses living from Guane for your return (probably one every 2 hours). We had to take a "Taxi" and the driver was no more than 12 years old! He was pretty good but had to hide when arriving in San Gil form the main streets!

Where to eat and sleep:

Everything evolves around the main square, try your luck there.
