Leticia

Parque Santander, LeticiaLeticia is a small Amazonian harbor located on the border with Peru and Brazil. It’s the capital of the Amazonas region, the largest in Colombia. The main reason to visit the place is to venture into the forest to explore the fauna and the flora of this vegetal continent that is the Amazon. Leticia is on the banks of the Amazon and is merged with her Brazilian sister town of Tabatinga. There is no border between the 2 towns and you can literaly take a walk to Brazil.

Another reason to go to Laeticia is to take a boat to Manaus to explore the river Amazon. Or you plan to travel to Brazil, you can save money on international air fair by going through Tabatinga. If you have time, it is cheaper to do Bogotá-Laeticia-Tabatinga-Manaus-Rio de Janeiro than a Bogotá-Rio, you avoid international taxes and the sometimes ludicrous price system in place for airlines these days.

Did you know?

The legend says a Colombian soldier fell in love with an Amerindian woman named Leticia and gave her name to the settlement after her. Some less glamourous people say it could also be named after Saint Leticia.
