Taganga

Breathtaking views over the bay of Taganga

If you are looking to relax after a trip to Tayrona or after a trek to the Lost City, head to Taganga to recharge your batteries, eat well and party.

A 15 mns ride from Santa Marta; Taganga has become a backpackers' den thanks to its lovely setting in the middle of a bay, and its party attitude. The word about Taganga has been out for a while and it certainly grow a lot from the original tiny fishermens' village it was only 10 years ago. It's still a great destination with a great offering of hostels, restaurants and a good nightlife.

Taganga offers decent diving options but probably caters more for beginners than advanced divers.

ATTRACTIONS, VISITS AND ACTIVITIES
..........................................................................................................................................

Taganga is mainly used as a stop before or after a trek to Tayrona or the Lost City. You can also of course enjoy the local beach or head to Playa Grande, a pretty bay nortweast of Taganga. You can go there by foot through the walking path starting near Hotel Bahia Taganga, it is on the right of the beach when facing the sea. Or take a boat, you'll be there in 5 mins (5,000 Pesos per person).

=> There have been incidents on the way to Playa Grande, we recommend you to not go on your own and definitely avoid coming back late at night through the trail.

For something more energetic in Taganga and around, be sure to visit the Elemento Outdoor Adventure agency. They organize day tours or multi-day adventure expeditions in the adjacent Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta & Tayrona National Parks. They can also organize volunteer work on some conservation and social projects.
