There is one thing that always comes up when asking travellers or Colombians about their country. No, it's not the paradise beaches, the amazing colonial cities or how nice the people are, it's almost always... the beautiful women!

Beauty is an important part of Colombian culture. The beauty pageants are transmitted on National TV at prime time and they are an excuse for throwing massive fiestas all over the country (go to Cartagena for one week in December to feel the vibe!)
Well, we can testify, the legend is true: the women are absolutely stunning here... They have this Latin "je ne sais quoi", a mix of grace, charm & allure with a great taste for clothing and arranging themselves.

Walking around the streets of Parque Lleras in Medellin on a Saturday night or going to Fragma Club in Cartagena can be a painful experience for the neck, but this is a venture in itself so we highly recommend it. (Any female reader is very welcome to let us know what they think about Colombian men!)
It's not a coincidence that there is a bit of a national obsession around beauty and with it comes its excesses; especially concerning plastic surgery. Many girls will get over-sized breasts, have excessive face enhancements and there is also a weird practice consisting in putting implants in their bottom which can be really ungraceful in our opinion.

=> Medellin is one of the world's capital for plastic surgery and this is very common that when a girl gets into her Quinceañera (Latino girls come of age at fifteen), she will get a new pair of breasts!

The other dark side to this abundance of prettiness is that there is a business starting to develop. With many men coming to Colombia to seek some "cheap short or long term relationships", many girls are seeing an opportunity to make some easy money. Remember that the average salary is 10 times lower than in the US here!
The amount of prostitution in the most touristic places is very high (especially in Cartagena) so be careful with any "easy girl" you meet in bars or clubs, she might not ask straight away for it, but you might end up with a request to the wallet.
=> Keep in mind that this is usually not in the culture to go to bed with a man on a first night, so be suspicious if it feels somehow too easy.
