Santa Marta Getting There

Avianca, LAN and Copa fly from Bogota to Santa Marta. There are also flights from main cities such as Medellín, Cali, Bucaramanga.

Aeropuerto Simón Bolívar is located 16Kms South of Santa Marta.

There are erratic buses between the airport and the Carrera 1C in the center. If you manage to find one, it takes 45 minutes and costs about 2,000 Pesos. They usually take you to Carrera 1C. By taxi, it costs $20,000 Pesos and takes 30 minutes to get to the center of Santa Marta.

By Bus

If you're up for a proper journey, try the 18-20h bus trip from Bogota (110,000 Pesos) or the 15-17 hours from Medellín ($100,000 Pesos). Bucaramanga is  about 10 hours away and the trip costs 60 to $80,000 Pesos. There are several departures a day between Santa Marta and Cartagena (4 hours, $40,000 Pesos), Barranquilla (2 hours, $20,000 Pesos) and Riohacha (2 and a half hours, $25,000 Pesos)

Matamoco bus terminal is outside of town, south of Santa Marta. Allow 30 minutes by bus and 20 minutes by taxi to get there from the center. There are mini buses in the town center that costs 2,000 Pesos. Taxi should be around 15,000 Pesos.
