Colombian Music

Being musicians ourselves, one of the most magical things we were looking forward when traveling to South America was to experience the cult-like devotion of Latinos to music. Music is not only a form of art here, it's a fascinating religion.

Colombian music is the perfect reflection of its people: passionate, mixed & beautiful.

It is very often related to dancing & singing and there is not a single day that a Colombian will spend without listening to the local "Cumbia" radio, singing in the car going to work, doing a little move cleaning the house & giving it all on the dance floor at the end of the week...

Like everything in Colombia, it might take a little while to get into it, but when you're in, you're IN!

=> Colombian music is mostly a mixture of African, native Indigenous
, European influences, as well as more modern American and Caribbean musical forms, Cuban, and Jamaican.

Carlos Vives "en vivo"Cumbia, Salsa & Vallenato are the 3 most important styles but you will find many others. Tuning through Colombian radios is a good way to discover the diversity. From one click to the other you go through classical, hard rock, jazz, funk, 80s classics... & of course loads of Cumbia & Salsa!

Petrona Martinez, Old School...

There are very little Colombian artist that are known out of Colombia: Pop singer Shakira & eventually Juanes & Carlos Vives who both won Grammy awards. This is a real shame as there are some real jewels to be discovered here. After just a few weeks of traveling, it felt like Colombians seemed to carry more talent in their blood than what we had seen in many years of cruising live scenes of the supposed European musical capitals of the world.
