Leticia Attractions and Visits

Given that the magic of this place is in the jungle surrounding the city, Leticia itself offers few worth visiting spots. However, during your stay there are some attractions and visits that you can´t miss.

The first one is the Ethnographic Museum and Library of the Republic Bank, where you can find very interesting information on the different tribes and indigenous groups that inhabit this area of Colombia.

After that, you can visit the Serpentarium and learn about the amazing, and sometimes enormous or deadly poisonous snakes of the Amazonian jungle.

For something more wild and close to Letica, visit the Isla de los Micos (or Monkey’s Island), a beautiful place only at 30 minutes from the city by boat through the Amazonas River.

And if you like to admire the amazing flora of the Amazonia, visit the Mundo Amazónico Ecological Park where you can get to know more about the endemic plants of the area and its healing properties.

Another interesting visit is heading to the triple frontier, where you can cross from Colombia to Brazil and Peru just by passing to the other sidewalk.

=> Visit the Parque de Santander (main square) just before sunset in downtown's Leticia to witness the thousands of parrots getting ready for the night.

The legend says a Colombian soldier fell in love with an Amerindian woman named Leticia and gave her name to the settlement after her. Some less glamourous people say it could also be named after Saint Leticia.
