The Lost City itself includes hundreds of terraces and looks more like Palenque in México than Machu Picchu in Perú. But, the real interest is in the 5 or 6 day walk to get there. Hikking into the jungle, fighting mosquitoes, crossing rivers… that´s what it takes to get to the Los City and join the few fortunate ones that make it to the ancient capital of the Tayronas (around 1000 persons a year).
Discovered in the 70´s, the Lost City is located on the sides of the Buriticá River, 1200 meters above sea level. Built by the Tayronas between the 11th and 14th centuries, Teyuna (the original name of the city) was the main urban center of the Tayronas in the Sierra Nevada with a population of a few thousands.
