HOW TO GET TO MOMPOX?
..........................................................................................................................................

Arriving to Mompox by BoatMompox is clearly off the main roads and will involve a ferry or a boat crossing as it lies between 2 unbridged rivers. We have put Mompox as part of the Colombian Caribbean Coast as most travellers would go there from Cartagena but keep in mind, it takes 8 hours to get there from Cartagena!

Most transports go to Magangué where you take a boat to cross the river to get to Bodega. The boat operates from 6am to 5pm and costs 8,000 COP. From Bodega, it tajes 40 mins to get to Mompox (13,000 COP).

You can reach Magangué by bus from Santa Marta, Monteria, Sincelejo.

From Barranquilla bus terminal, there is direct a buse (65,000 COP, 7.30 hours) leaving at 6am with Unitransco. From Cartagena bus terminal, that same Unitransco bus can pick you to go to Mompox (60,000 COP, 6 hours) at 7.30am.

Another option is to fly to Valledupar and take a direct bus (60,000 COP, 6 hours). There is a bus at 4am and one at 8am. You still have to take a short ferry crossing (included in the price) but that should be over by 2016 as a bridge is being built making the whole trip ne hour shorter.
