PNN Chingaza
PNN Chingaza is one of the best treks around Bogotá. It can be done as a day trip offering you the ability to experience one of the most fascinating landscapes in South America : the Paramo. Set above 3000m, the park hosts unique Colombian fauna and flora including deers or the amazing "frailejones" plants.
The park was created in 1977. Shaped like a butterfly, it is the smallest national park in Colombia with an area of 76,600 hectares. Chingaza is a very wet place, it includes 40 lakes and 80% of Bogotá's drinking water.

There are several routes and hikes within the park. The closest ones from Bogotá are Lagunas de Siecha near Guasca and Piedras Gordas near La Calera. There are 2 other entrances for people with more time and a car: Fomeque (at about 7 hours from Bogota) and Monte Redondo (about 4 hours from Bogota via La Calera). Monte Redondo is located in the center of Chingaza and is a great place to spend a weekend. It has cabins, camping facilities, a restaurant and lots hiking routes to explore.
=> The best time to visit the Park is in December and January when it is the dryest.
