Popayán
There is Cartagena and there is Popayán... The 2nd jewel of Colombian colonial architecture shines because it's not been assaulted by tourists like her big sister yet. "The White City" is famous for her superb churches, her white facades made of chalk and a certain nonchalance.
Popayán's historic downtown is considered one of the most beautiful and best preserved in whole Latin America. You will find beautiful churches, cathedrals, plazas and museums to visit and make sure to enjoy the magic of the city by getting lost in its peaceful streets.
It's the main university town of the Cauca region and there's a young, sociable feel to the city.

For Easter, Popayán hosts the largest religious celebrations in Colombia, Semana Santa.
Another reason to come to Popayán is to visit the nearby National Park Puracé a geothermal wonderland of hot springs, waterfalls, and an active volcano from which the park derives its name.
And for something off the beaten tracks, don't miss the Tuesday market in Silvia to meet with the Guambianos community.
=> Pleasant climate makes Popayán a very enjoyable place to visit all year round.
