Popayán Restaurants

Being recently appointed by UNESCO as a City of Gastronomy, Popayán does have a few culinary specialties you might want to try as well as some good restaurants with traditional and international food for all for all budgets.

One of the best restaurants in town is El Quijote Restaurant on the outskirts of the city, it offers quality local and international cuisine in beautiful surroundings.

For international delights, try María Bonita, a cheerful mexican place, or the good french restaurant La Cave.

For lunch, they are plenty of options. The set menu at the Restaurante Italiano or at the Hotel Popayán Plaza are delicious and a bargain at 8,500 Pesos per person.

To try the famous "empanadas de Pipian" (a local pastry filled with potatoes), go to Empanadas de Javi near Popayán market square or Las Abuelas Bakery near the Puente del Humilladero.

If you're looking for vegetarian restaurant, try the nice and simple Naturaleza y Vida.
