Punta Gallinas

Our highlight of the region and of all Colombia, and even of the whole universe! Punta Gallinas along with places such as Machu Picchu or the Mekong Valley is totally unique and blessed with magnificent beauty. Its landscape look like out of a Sci-Fi CGI movie, photos and videos will never make it justice, you have to go there!

Punta Gallinas Colombia canyonsYou need to take a boat to access Punta Gallinas, a 2 hours ride that will be a perfect introduction to the beauty of the place. Hundreds of Pelicans fishing around, a sharp blue sea becoming emerald while you approach the bay, a mangrove field surrounded by orange canyons... Welcome to Punta Gallinas.

Punta Gallinas La Guajira desertAbout 45 mns from the base camp, lie giant virgin dunes falling into the sea. You can literally roll on them into the water, a mystical experience! Just sit on top of the dune and wait for the sunset, it will make you watch life differently.

Where to stay?
.........................................................................................................................................

There are a couple of camps where you can rent hammocks and beds, the one we stayed at was particularly nice, on top of the canyon with stunning views. It cost $15,000 to rent a hammock and around $20,000 for a bed (different options: bed in a dorm or rent a cabana with 2 beds fro approximately the same price)

Where to eat?

Food will be provided by the camp, usually a fish or lobster with Rice and banana planteur (and if you are lucky a microscopic piece of green). Nothing amazing and a bit overcooked to our taste but that will do the job. You can buy fresh drinks for a descent price, quite nice to grab a fresh beer and watch sunset over the Canyon...
