You're likely to only stay one or two nights in Rioahacha while visting the surrounding attractions or planing your trip to Cabo de la Vela or Punta Gallinas. Riohacha mainly caters to the business travellers with plenty of 3/4 stars hotels that filled up during the week and emtpy at the weekends.

Barbacoa Hotel
At only 5 minutes from the Airport and the Bus Terminal, this 3 stars hotel offers comfortable doubles equipped with A/C, Wifi, minibar and garage. They also have free coffee and water available all day. Prices are between 80 to 100,000 COP for a double room.

La Casa de Mamá Hostel
A few blocks away from the beach, you will find this familiar hostel with comfortable rooms and a cozy environment. They also offer transport to the main tourist destinations of the area. Prices start at 20,000 COP per person.

Castillo del Mar
Another hostel, 5 mins from the Malecon. This German owned hostel has large basic rooms in castle style habitations.

EATING AND RESTAURANTS IN RIOHACHA

Most restaurants are located along the Malecon. While in Riohacha you might want to try seafood or the typical Wayuu dish: goat prepared in different forms.

La Cascada
A good option for lunch, they have set menus for 8,000 Pesos. It's a more expensive for diners and a bit empty.

Asadero Don Pepe
The best place to try goat. It's on the Malecon, expect to pay between 10,000 to 20,000 COP. Expect big portions of grilled meat along with salad, yucca or potatoes.

The best place for seafood including lobster.

NIGHTLIFE, BARS AND CLUBS IN RIOHACHA

Also in the Paseo de la Marina area, during Fridays and Saturdays, the locals get together to listen vallenato and other Latin rhythms, while enjoying a few drinks at the sea shore. This is the best place to get to know the local nightlife and have a party night at the ‘Guajiro’ Style.

GETTING TO RIOHACHA

Take a bus from the Bus Terminal in Santa Marta, you will pay 25.000 pesos for a 3/4 hours journey. You can also flight directly from Bogotá.
