San Gil reserves a few surprises for the traveler in the know. After a long day of travelling or after a good hike, why don't you relax in an outdoor olympic size swimming pool overlooking the City. Go up from the main square on calle 12, pass the carrera 7, and it should be a few blocks on your left, ask people for the exact address. Entrance to the public swimming pool is 5,000 Pesos. It's a great place to go at 3/4 in the afternoon to end the day swimming and basking in the sun.
For something more natural, go to Pozo Azul. Located 2 kms from San Gil on the way to Bucaramanga, it is a very popular place with locals at the weekend. For some off the beaten tracks extreme sports activities, 300 meters below Pozo Azul, jump from large rocks directly into the river Milagrosa.
For a more sedate but authentic experience, head to the San Gil Market Square (Plaza de Mercado) for a breakfast of fruits and local dishes.
Outside San Gil, visit Curiti and enjoy the natural pools at Balneario de Pescaderito.
