Right now in Bogota is the
Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá, the bi-annual theater festival that’s one of the highlights of the Colombian calendar.
The festival kicked off in 1988 when Fanny Mikey and Ramiro Osorio took it upon themselves to celebrate the 450th anniversary of
Bogotá’s foundation in style. And what style it was. The plan was to show the world the rich culture of Latin countries, but the project must have exceeded all expectations. Today it’s one of the biggest theater festivals in the world, and draws the attention of millions of people worldwide, as well as attracting some of the world’s best theater talent.
Every time around the festival grows, although last time around it was particularly poignant, being the first since the sad passing away of theater legend and founder of the festival, Fanny Mikey.
This year promises to be an amazing time, and will be one of the biggest
events in Colombia in 2012. The festival runs from the 23rd of March to the 8th of April, and the guest of honour is Romania. They’ll be bringing many thespian troops to perform a series of undoubtedly excellent plays.
