Beaches of Cartagena

Cartagena is an ideal beach location but unfortunately the beaches in or near the city are not the best of Colombian's Carribean Coast.

Bocagrande Cartagena

Nevertheless, Cartagena has several beaches accessible by foot, the water is warm and the spectacle of wandering vendors, masseurs or Vallenato bands is fun and authentic.

=> At the weekend the beaches get crammed with locals enjoying their time off and drinking large amount of beers and rhum to cool off.

The best beaches are in Bocagrande with the best one being the little private beach of the Hilton Hotel in Bocagrande. The beach is part of the hotel but you can put your towel there and enjoy a clean and quiet beach, a luxury in Cartagena.

Around Cartagena, there are several good options like Bocachica, or La Boquilla bear the resort of Las Americas (where you can pratice Kitesurfing) but you have to take a bus or a taxi to get there.

The Isla beaches
are a much better option but they are mainly accessible by boat.

Tierrabomba is the island in front of Bocagrande and has various beaches with less people than in Bocagrande but the beaches are still average.

The best of the best, and  what you would expect from a beautiful Caribbean beach, are Islas del Rosario and the maginifiscent Playa Blanca and Isla Baru. Again, avoid the crowds by going during the week.
