Pamplona

Panoramic View of Pamplona

If it's charming churches, narrow streets, colonial houses and spectacular views you’re after, they don’t come much more inviting than Pamplona.

Set deep in the Valle del Espíritu Santo in the north of the Santander region, Pamplona is much cooler than neighboring city Bucaramanga and is a great stop-off en-route to Venezuela.

Pamplona was founded in 1549 but an earthquake in 1857 completely destroyed much of the town. As such, the main plaza is a mix of reconstructed colonial and modern architecture, which gives it a unique and welcoming atmosphere.

Pamplona is a town that is noticeably influenced by its university. The Universidad de Pamplona is an important institute in the town’s history and it is owing to this that Pamplona has such a rich cultural scene. There are many museums, galleries and cafes to be explored during the day, and bars at night.
