Feria de Manizales
Manizales can be considered as the Colombian capital for bullfighting. Held in January, the "Feria de Manizales" attracts some of the best bullfighters in the world and hosts one of the bigest party in Colombia with parades, beauty contests. www.facebook.com/feriamanizales

A lot more sophisticated than the one week drinking contest that happens during the Feria is the Festival Internacional de Teatro. It is of the 2 best theatre festivals in the country, the other one being the bi-annual Festival de Teatro Iberoamericano de Bogotá. The Festival started in 1968 and takes place in September. It includes free concerts and events in the city and in the main square, that is Plaza Bolívar. www.facebook.com/pages/Pagina-Oficial-Festival-Internacional-de-Teatro-de-Manizales/95837208780

Manizales Main ChurchVisit the City
Manizales has little to offer, you can walk to the main square which has a really wooden nice church, take the cable car for an overview of the city, go to the cemetery. Once Caldas (the football/soccer team) is one of the best in the country so if you like the beautiful game, check the schedule with the locals on arrival.

Chipre
A walk to Chipre is located 2kms North of the city, there you will find a mirador offering amazing views over the city. You can take a bus from Cable Plaza to get there, it will cost you about a bit more than 1,000 pesos and will take you 20 minutes.

Los Yarumos Nature Park
Overlooking Manizales, Los Yarumos Nature Park, is a nice day trip from the city. On a clear day, you can get a nice view of the 3 peaks of El Ruiz, Santa Isabel and El Cisne. Don't expect to be surrounded by nature here, it's fresh and green, but it's more like an amusement park than a trek in the jungle. It is opened from 9 to 5pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Basic entrance is 3/4000 pesos and then you can pay for the extras such as the canopy cables (20,000 pesos), horse-riding, waterfall rappelling. There are also full day passes which might be worthwhile at 33,000 pesos.

To get to Los Yarumos, take a taxi (3,000 pesos) or warm up with a 40 minute walk from Cable Plaza.

PNN Los NevadosPNN Los Nevados and Nevado del Ruiz
Only 30 minutes away, Manizales is the best starting point to visit PNN Los Nevados, one of the best trekking opportunities in Colombia with the PNN El Cocuy. You can get to the Park from Salento as well.  Check our detailed guide: PNN Los Nevados.
