Highlights of Colombia

You could travel in Colombia for a few years and be amazed every day so selecting a few highlights was always going to be a difficult and unfair exercise. But we understand that not everyone as the luxury to stay for so long in Colombia.

Our highlights include 14 destinations with 3 World Heritage sites: Cartagena, The Cocora Valley part of the Coffee Route and the San Agustin Archeological Park

While not particularly pretty, Bogotá, Medellín and Cali are destinations in itself with amazing nightlife and beautiful nature at their doorsteps. Near Bogotá, don't forget to spare a day to visit the man-made Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira.

For outstanding colonial architecture, head to Villa de Leyva in Boyacá  or Barichara in Santander, both a few hours north of Bogotá.

When it comes to lush and exhuberant nature, the Tayrona National Park, north of Santa Marta and Caño Cristales, the 5 colors' river, had to make the list. Heading south, check in at the Tatacoa Desert to wander its grey and red canyons.

For adventures, visit San Gil, a world-class spot for rafting and the possibility of paragliding over the Chicamocha Canyon.

Last but not least, for the best hike in the country, wander between the snowy peaks and the green valleys of El Cocuy National Park.

=> If you have more time, check our off-the-beaten-tracks destinations, they are just as magical as the sites above but usually require more time and transports to get there, making them more unique and rewarding.
