ACCOMODATION, HOTELS AND HOSTELS

Morgan's Head Providencia

At the airport it´s likely you´ll be jumped on immediately with offers of accommodation! The majority of hotels are found in the "tourist zone" of Freshwater Bay (Bahia Aguadulce), though there are places to stay all over the island.

You can also find "Posadas Nativas" (guesthouses) that are much smaller than hotels, may or may not include breakfast and tend to be better value. You are unlikely to find anything below 30,000 Pesos per person and per night.

Posada del Mar
A good mid range option located with balconies facing the beach.
Between 100,000 Pesos (single) to 150,000 Pesos (double), affiliated with the Decameron chain.

EATING AND RESTAURANTS
..........................................................................................................................................

Seafood lovers are in for a treat. There are really good crab dishes in Providencia and plenty of lobster too. On Sundays you may find many of the restaurants are closed; look out for street vendors and locals cooking up BBQ lunches.

Caribbean Place Donde Martin
If you want to treat yourself with gourmet food or try mountainous black crab (20,000 to 50,000 Pesos for a main).
Located in Agua Dulce.

NIGHTLIFE, BARS AND CLUBS
..........................................................................................................................................

There are many small reggae bars along the beaches of Providencia and one of the best is the legendary Rolland’s Reggae Roots Bar where the parties tend to spill out onto Manzinillo beach. At the weekends you can also find locals hanging out by Lover´s Bridge and if you ask around there may be one or two very basic ´discos´ open.

GETTING THERE
..........................................................................................................................................

View from Fort Warwick ProvidenciaYou can fly to Providencia from San Andres with either Satena or Decameron, who are usually cheaper (expect to pay about 350K for a return). The flight time is about half an hour.

The alternative is to go by Catamaran from the Neme Marina in San Andres. The journey takes about 3-4 hours depending on the weather. The journey can be a bit rough to get there, although the return tends to be smoother. Consider taking sea sickness tablets beforehand! There is only one company offering the journey, Catamaran Sensation (240K Pesos return).

The cheapest (and slowest) option available is to take a Cargo boat for about 9-10 hours; just go to the port and ask to see what´s available.

Transport in Providencia tends to cost about 15-20K Pesos for the pick-up trucks to take you where you need to go.

SAFETY
..........................................................................................................................................

Careful of falling coconuts!

It´s also worthwhile picking up some aqua shoes if you´re planning to swim around the corals - buy them in the duty free shops.
